March 13, 2010, a Saturday
Anza-Borrego Desert State Park (near Borrego Springs), California, USA
— Font's Point for sunrise
J got out of bed around 3:30 because she couldn't seep — apparently, I had been snoring.

I got out of bed around 4:45 and asked J if she'd like to go photograph sunrise at Font's Point. She said she'd pass because she was too tired after not getting much sleep last night. I made some instant coffee to go and left by myself around 5:10 in the Jeep.

I reached Font's Point around 5:20 in plenty of time for the 6:00 sunrise. I waited for the light to come up a bit, then I went out to the point. The image to the far left was taken looking to the south before sunrise. The eastern sky was bright and provided some nice diffuse light on the badlands and green valley in the distance. The image to the near left was taken looking to the southeast after the sun cleared the cloud bank at the horizon and had started to illuminate the badlands. The image was created from one RAW file processed three times to capture the detail in the bright sky, the darker middle ground, and the bright foreground.

Mushroom and Onion-Topped Burgers

  • olive oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 8 oz. mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tbs worcestershire sauce
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 lean burger patties
  • sour cream for topping
Pour a couple glugs of olive oil into a large pan. Heat on medium high heat. Add the onion and mushrooms. Saute until nicely browned. Add worcestershire sauce and continue cooking. Move the mixture to the side and add the burger patties. Sprinkle with additional worcestershire sauce. Brown the burgers on both sides until desired doneness.

Serve by placing a burger on the plate, then topping with veggies, and finally with a dollop of sour cream.
I returned to the RV around 6:45. I downloaded the images I took this morning then downselected them in Capture One (C1). I did some computer work then started processing images for a stock submission.

I had lunch around 12:05, and some people pulled in next to us and started to unload their dirt bikes — yikes! Shortly thereafter, we were treated to the sound of loud two-cycle engines running around. We thought about leaving to escape the noise, but decided to stay. Fortunately, after an hour or so, all of the noise had moved away from our RV and it wasn't bad for the rest of the afternoon. I processed more images for a stock submission. The wind had picked up and the sky was clear so we decided to stay in the RV instead of going out to photograph something. I did some computer work.

We had dinner at 6:25 of mushroom and onion-topped burgers and a Greek salad.

After dinner, I had some Asbach Uralt while we watched the last episode of Desperate Housewives Season 5 on DVD.
